Doughnut Run in Chicago

My sister and I have started testing the doughnuts around Chicago. Do-Rite Donuts & Coffee has always been my "go to" for a fantastic doughnut. Over the past few weeks, we tested Stan's Donuts, Glazed and Infused Doughnuts, and Firecakes Donuts. As we continue to go around the city, I will provide updates. Here are my rankings so far:

Do-Rite: 8 / 10
Firecakes: 9 / 10
Stan's: 6 / 10
Glazed and Infused: 3 / 10

To ensure testing is even, I am using a glazed raised yeast doughnut. My sister may have different feedback.

Do-Rite has amazing flavor, texture, and the glaze is not too sweet. This has been my doughnut of choice for years. The flavor has a hint of vanilla from the glazed and a light fluffy doughnut that doesn't dry out the mouth. This is not a melt in your mouth doughnut but is equally satisfying.

Firecakes was the biggest most wonderful surprise I have had in a very long time. This is a flavorful doughnut that is so light that it melts in your mouth. Not over cooked, and in my case they had just brought up a rack from the oven. This is the best doughnut in Chicago thus far.

Stan's was a doughnut I had high hopes for. The doughnut itself was fine. There wasn't much flavor to it, and the glaze was a bit too sweet for me. I found myself needing a drink to wash it down completely. If you are in a pinch, Stan's is fine.

Glazed and Infused was a great disappointment. Not the first time trying it so I hoped they last was a fluke. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The doughnut was more like a pound cake. The density was way to high. The glaze was way more than it needed and was flavorless. I did eat it all, because I was hungry and convinced myself that it was just cake.

If you have suggestions for my next doughnut run, comment below.

You're killing me smalls! I've been jonesing for a Do-Rite maple bacon kruller of late. Nothing quite like it here in Cincy! Good luck on your quest!
